How to Germinate Curry Leaf Seeds & Placing into Peat Pellets

Updated: Jun 25

You must remove the skin from the purple and green seeds. The purple seeds tend to do better in terms of germinate rates but we've had success with both. The best way to germinate curry leaf seeds is to soak them up in water for 24 hours to start. You can put these in a bowl of warm water for 24-48 hours, as you will start to see them soften up, you can change the water if needed since the purple coloring will take over.

Once the curry leaf seeds have been soaked for at least 24 hours.

I recommend using seed start pellets or seed soil, you can buy them using the links from Amazon, they are inexpensive and will help ensure strong germination rates.

Once you have done this you can soak the pellets or soil in cups, put your finger down about 1/2 inch down and place the seed and lightly cover the seed now with soil. You do not want to cover the curry leaf seed (they are also known as Murraya Bergera Koenigii) with too much soil otherwise it will take longer for it to sprout. It is best to put the seed vertical. As if the seed was standing up. ( ) this direction.

You can use these Jiffy Pellets, they work very well!

Now once you have placed the seeds, you can easily watch them germinate in about 2-3 weeks. Make sure you keep them moist with watering every day. They will want partial sun/shade, do not put them in direct sun all day, they do not like this when they are young. They can be grown indoors, so the partial sun, majority shade outside is perfect for them.

Watch this video below to see how I use seed starter pellets to grow curry leaf plants, you can see what I am referring to when keeping the seed vertical in the soil, as that will speed up the time it takes for it to climb out of the soil to start growing its stem.
